Birch Point

Last September I took a workshop with an extraordinarily talented artist, Colin Page.
It was "Plein Air" in oil on the coast of Maine. Being inexperienced with both Plein Air and Oil, I found myself completely challenged! I was out of my comfort zone to say the least. Colin's style is incredible and I admire it. While I certainly produced nothing of any value in terms of paintings, I did learn some important lessons. Make every brush stroke count. Clean color. Light, light, light. I also learned that while I admire Colin's work, I will never paint like he does. It is not in my nature. I think that it is critical to learn from those you admire and to apply what you learn to your own style. We painted this scene during the course of that week.(My attempt went in the trash.) I returned this June and painted it again trying to apply some of what I learned from Colin. I still struggle with the lesson, but am loving the journey.

Five O'Clock Shadow

Once a month a group of my artist friends get together at someones home for "Drink and Draw". Sometimes we draw. Sometimes we drink. Sometimes we do both! These two paintings were done from our last drink and draw session at my friend Lynde's home on Lake Winnipesaukee.

Tools of the Trade II

I am fortunate that I am able to go to the mid coast of Maine at least once a year with a wonderful group of women to eat, talk, laugh, cry, explore and paint.
I recently completed this painting inspired by one of those trips.
